Between Burden and Breakthrough: Retinal Care in a Resource-Diverse Nation

This issue traces a single thread through very different papers: the gap between disease burden and the evidence we have to meet it.

Diabetic retinopathy, corneal endothelial change, and dengue-related vascular complications underscore how much vision loss in Indonesia is systemic and still under-characterised. A validated adherence questionnaire and two studies of surgical outcomes — cataract progression after vitrectomy, and predictors of poor vision after endophthalmitis — turn that same scrutiny toward our own tools and complications.

An editorial cautioning against premature claims for stem cell therapy sits deliberately beside a case series on subthreshold laser, a modest, evidence-led alternative. Together they set this issue's standard: welcome innovation, but hold it to the same evidence we demand of everything else.
